The villager's role will determine the trades they can offer. If you don't have an unemployed Villager, you can destroy the job block that a villager is using. If you don't get the desired trades from a villager you can break the job block and place it back down to allow them to load their trades.

Villager Appearance:

Not only do villager's jobs change depending on their profession however, their appearance will be different in each biome. They will keep the specific characteristics to their work to ensure that each job is distinct. For example all Farmers wear straw hats, and all Librarians have glasses.

Trading Stock:

Mojang introduced the amazing concept of 'Supply & Demand in Mojang 1.14. This means that if a transaction is carried out too frequently and the villager run out of inventory, but also prices (the quantity of items/emeralds you must give) will increase.  Minecraft Trades can be made up to 4 times before the stock runs out. Villagers will restock twice a day. The cost of an item will decrease in the event that it isn't traded.

Unlocking Trades:

When a trade is made between a villager and a player, both of them gain experience. When villagers level up, the next tier of trades is unlocked. There are five levels of trades for each villager that unlock higher quality items. The villager's level is represented by a colored badge on their clothing. It can range from Novice (Stone) and Apprentice (Iron) and Journeyman/Gold), Expert(Emerald) up to Master(Diamond).

Wandering Trader

This is a little unusual, but there is a villager who acts nothing like the other villager. The Wandering Trader is a passive mob, much like normal Villagers, but it randomly appears throughout the world with seemingly no pattern at all. It has two trading llamas that are similar to normal llamas but with a slight cosmetic modification. Another oddity with this Villager is that it does not have trading levels, which means the trades you've made with him are the ones you are stuck with. Don't worry, as his trades will be reset next time he spawns in.

The trades of the Wandering Trader are often obscure and difficult to find. Not particularly impressive or powerful, but valuable nevertheless. Be quick, as the Wandering Trader will disappear after 40-60 minutes.

Popularity:

You are a certain level of the popularity of a player. In the event of a negative action, such as attacking villages can reduce your popularity, while trading regularly or curing zombie villager are great ways to increase the amount of popularity. Negative actions can raise prices while positive actions may reduce them.

Let's say your village is attacked by Illagers, while you coincidentally happen to be in the area and you are able to fend off the attack. You will be rewarded with the 'Hero of The Village' status effect, which further reduces the cost of trade (except for trades that cost 1 emerald.)

These are the basic rules of villager jobs and trading. You should now be able manage a villager farm as an expert! Mojang feels the need to tear the carpet right under our feet often and, for better or worse, trading in Minecraft is slightly more complicated with Supply & Demand mechanics, along with popularity functions. You can make use of these features to assist you, or ruin the trading economy on your Minecraft server. I hope you found this guide useful. I wish you all the best and good luck!
